About
The Barbara Cherry Foundation is a Not For Profit organisation chaired by her husband, John Cherry and supported by two Directors and volunteers.
The Charity
Barbara Cherry Foundation
After becoming a registered nurse Barbara had a drive to help the less fortunate and so left her home and travelled to Thursday Island to help the locals and natives of the area. In 1996 Barbara established a home in Willoughby called Community Youth Homes where boys were provided with shelter, clothing, food and most importantly a place where they could belong and take small steps back into society. The success of Willoughby gave Barbara the drive to grow her charity work and she went on to set up another 3 such homes for youth. Willoughby is still operational and is now managed by the trustees for child welfare.
Barbara’s final wish was that when her time came there would be a charity established in her name to give to those less fortunate a helping hand.
