Thulimbah is a town and locality in the Southern Downs Region of Queensland. The population is approximately 2374 people. It is around 15 minutes drive from Stanthorpe and is also home to one of the Australia’s big things, a tourist attraction known as “The Big Apple”. Thulimbah State School was opened on 29th September 1914 and has now 70 students who attend this school who are aged between 5-12 years of age.
After speaking with the Southern Downes Council we were directed to this small school as they were in need of a helping hand. Having been in drought for some time, the property owners are struggling to keep their stock as the alternative can be destructive of their future. This was a bad enough situation and then the fires began. This just added to the stress of the situation, (emotionally as well as financially) to which we wanted to be able to make a difference.
The children are having an End Of Year Concert on the 12th December and we want to make sure this small community can have a healthy Christmas meal so we are providing a Hamper with Ham, fruit and vegetables and a pudding. We are sourcing all of these items from the local area so as to put this money back into the Community. We have bought the children a Beach Towel as a Christmas Present which the Principal has said would be appreciated as they have swimming lessons at the start of next year. We have also been promised some State Of Origin Footballs, sun hats, basketballs, linen and clothing from a charity on the Gold Coast who has kindly volunteered to help. We were also given some new children’s toys, (stocking fillers) from a local opportunity store which we are grateful for.
We love our volunteers and they are growing every day.
